We hope you are well and enjoying this time together with your family. Well done for trying to keep up with your learning at home, below are the tasks for the upcoming week. There is no work set for the Friday, as this is a bank holiday, so please enjoy!

Recap what you know about the character ‘Meg’ between chapters 1-5. Write a character description for Meg using the P.E.E structure.

Reading 

30 mins

Spend some time silent reading or reading aloud to someone in your house.  
Find out what is happening around the world - read the latest edition of the First News newspaper.

Maths

60 minutes

LI: to measure area in square metres. (5Ma4.5)
You will be exploring different ways of finding the area of rectangles using a specific scale. 
Remember to continue to use TT Rockstars to test and practice times tables and Mathletics to practise Arithmetic fluency.

History

LI: To understand the key events from the first year of WW1. (5Hi4.5)

Read through the PowerPoint to discover the key events from the first year of WW1.  Imagine you were a soldier fighting in France.  Write a letter to your family describing what happened on Christmas Day 1914.

LI: To understand how to describe characters. (5Eng5.5)Learn some new vocabulary and see how these words are used in the context of character description. Next, try writing your own character description about the character ‘Calvin O’ Keefe’.

Maths

LI: to find the area of shapes in square metres. (5Ma5.5)
You will be practising finding the area of various 2-D shapes using various the methods. You will also learn that two of the triangular areas within the shape make one square so calculating the area becomes slightly more complicated!

Remember to continue to use TT Rockstars to test and practice times tables and Mathletics to practise Arithmetic fluency.

Geography

60 minutes

LI: Analyse a range of media about the island of Borneo and its rainforest. (5Ma6.5)
The island of Borneo is third biggest island in the world and the largest in Asia. Shared by three countries, a rainforest, industrious entrepreneurs and indigenous people it is an interesting and beautiful place in the world that is under threat from climate chance and industry.

LI: to make an estimation of area in kilometres. (5Ma6.5)
You should now be confident in finding the area of rectilinear shapes but how about irregular shapes? You will also need to continue to refer to scales and covert the area using the correct multiplication calculation.

Abraham was the first ever Jewish person and is known as the ‘father of Judaism’. Learn about his conversation with God, his journey and his role as the patriarch of the Jewish people.

We have come to the end of the topic for area and perimeter. Have a go at solving a range of problems by completing the Review questions.

Music 60 minutes LI: Consolidate our music learning. (5Mu7.5)
This week will be a consolidation of everything you have learned at home so far. This includes some information you have read about, a reading comprehension about a composer you may not have researched, key terms, review on notation, and transposing rhythms to a single-line staff. Please try not to use your notes, I have provided you with all the necessary information on each sheet that you may not know.
