Week 5 Theme: The Ocean

Day 1: Ocean Scene Watercolour Art

Required items:

  • paper for watercolour
  • Watercolour paints
  • Water pots
  • Paint brushes
  • Paper towel
  • Black paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencils
  • Glue

What you’re doing:

Today, you will be creating a watercolour scene with black silhouettes. Use watercolour paints to create the ocean/beach/sunset. Let that dry and cut out different animal/plants you would find in the ocean or at the beach on black paper. Glue them onto the watercolour background.

Science/geography. Habitats of animals and how they’ve adapted to live there. Conservation of the ocean or oceans of the world on maps. Sing the continents/oceans song.

Day 2: Create a Fish

Required items:

  • Round cut outs
  • Paper to add extra bits to their fish
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Colouring pencils/felt tips or paint

What you’re doing:

Today, you will be creating your own unique fish! Using round paper cut outs to create your own underwater creature.

Day 3: Jelly Fish Craft

Required items:

  • Paper bowls/flower pots
  • Paints
  • Paint brushes
  • Paint pots
  • Paper towel
  • Water pots
  • Paper strips/string/tissue paper strips
  • Glue/tape

What you’re doing:

Today, you will be creating a hanging jellyfish. Use the paper bowls and flower pots to create your own jellyfish. The top and bottom can be painted or coloured. When the bottom is dry, they can add pieces of tissue paper, paper, or string to make the tentacle bit. These can be attached with tape or glue.

Day 4: Paper Bag Mermaids

You will need A4 paper and glue/tape.

If you can’t make a paper bag, then just use a circle cut out on a popsicle stick!

  • Paper bags
  • White and colour paper
  • Glue sticks and tape
  • Colouring pencils/felt tips
  • Googly eyes

What you’re doing:

Today, you will be creating a mermaid puppet! Be as creative as you want with this piece.

Day 5: Sea Creature Masks

  • Masks on popsicle stick
  • Extra coloured and white paper
  • Colouring pencils/felt tips

What you’re doing:

Today, you will be creating a sea creature mask! This could be an existing sea creature or one that you’ve made up yourself.
