Week 14 Theme: Flying High Art

Day 1: Flags

Children will be creating a flag that represents them! Think about how to best represent themselves and create a flag to show the world they you are.

Discuss flags around the world and the history of flags.

Day 2: Planes

Children will be making their own airplane! Use a kitchen towel roll tube or roll some paper into a tube shape and add wings and decorations.

  • Felt tips/colouring pencils
  • Tape/glue
  • Kitchen towel roll (or just roll paper into a tube)

Look at the history of air travel and famous pilots.

Day 3: Hot Air Balloons

Children will be making a hot air balloon! Draw the big balloon and the basket and decorate to their liking. After, cut them out and then attach the two parts with string or thin pieces of paper.

Talk about the history of hot air balloons and why they were invented.

Day 4: Birds Flying

Children will create a flying bird! Cut out a body shape and add in features of a bird. Cut a slit for the wings and fold paper like an accordion to make the wings. If they want to, they could attach streamers to the wings and some string to the top of the bird to make it look like it is flying in the wind.

Day 5: Kite

Today, you will be making your own kite! Choose one of the designs from the website above to make your own kite to try and fly outside!
