Parent Tips: Click here

Day 1: Spring

Visit this website to see what we are making today: Click here

Required items:

  • White paper
  • paints
  • Pencils
  • Scissors
  • coloured paper
  • paint brushes
  • paper towels
  • water pots

What you’re doing:

Today, you will be painting a tree in spring! Take a piece of brown coloured paper (or colour on white paper) and trace part of your arm and hand for the tree and branches. Cut out your hand and glue it onto the page. Around it, use the wooden end of a paint brush (or your finger) to fill in the background with little dots. When you finish painting, you can remove the tree and branches or leave them!

Day 2: Summer

Visit this website to see the inspiration for what we are making today: Click here

Required items:

  • A4 paper (coloured and white)
  • Felt tips/paint
  • Glue/tape
  • scissors
  • Items from outside to stick on tree (non-living things please!)

What you’re doing:

Today, you will be creating a 3D summer tree. Roll up some brown paper into a long tube (or use white and colour it), tape it/glue it when you’re happy with the size. Cut a small slit in two opposite spots on one end of the tube. Cut out the shape for the green leaves and slide it into the slits. Add things onto your tree to make it 3D! You could add fallen leaves, some broken twigs, some coloured paper, some animals you’ve drawn – the choice is yours! If you attach it to a base of cardboard or paper, you can also add to the ground with grass, rocks and other creatures.

Science. Research what food chains might exist in the habitat you’ve created.

Day 3: Autumn

Visit this website to see what we are making today: Click here

Required items:

  • White A4 paper
  • Black paper
  • Black felt tip
  • Orange, red and yellow felt tips/paints/oil pastels/colouring pencils

What you’re doing:

Today, you will be drawing a tree in autumn! Draw a rectangle and colour it in black or cut a rectangle out from some black paper. Draw long straight lines for the branches. In between each of the long lines, draw smaller rectangles, squares and triangles for the leaves. Colour in some of the leaves with the orange, red and yellow. Remember, it is autumn and the leaves fall then, so not all the parts need to be coloured in! Finally, draw in a scene at the bottom around your tree in autumn.

Science. Discuss why leaves fall off in autumn and what creatures use the fallen leaves for habitats.

Day 4: Winter

Visit this website to see what we’re making today: Click here

Required items:

  • White A4 Paper x2
  • Watercolours/paints
  • Water pots
  • Paint brushes
  • Paper towels
  • Tissue paper/coloured paper
  • Black felt tip
  • Glue
  • scissors

What you’re doing:

Today, you will create a winter tree scene. Paint the background with watercolours using icy winter colours. If you don’t have watercolours, you can mix some regular paint with water to get a watercolour type paint. Let that dry. On another piece of paper, draw some triangle shaped trees and cut them out. Collage paper onto them to make wintery trees. Draw the trunk and some branches inside the tree using felt tips. Glue the trees onto the watercoloured background.

Art. Look at artists who painted winter scenes and look at the colours they used in their paintings. Have they used only cool colours?
