Work for Year 4 Pupils for week commencing 27.4.20

Dear Year 4 Pupils,

Welcome to another week! Well done for trying to keep up with your learning at home and taking time out throughout the week to continue your learning journey during this unusual period of time. We have planned more lessons for you below so have a look and try your best. Your daily routines may still be changing but try to remember that the main priority is for you to keep up with your English and Maths lessons. As always, work within your own schedule and at your own pace and ensure you have a break in between each subject.

LI: To measure area (using multiplication). (4Ma27.4)
This week you will continue to measure area of various shapes, however, this time you are learning a new method. Within this lesson you will be exploring how to calculate area using multiplication. Which method do you prefer best, counting squares or using multiplication to calculate area?

Remember to continue to use TT Rockstars to test and practice times tables and Mathletics to practise Arithmetic fluency.

History

60 minutes

LI: To understand how Napoleon rose to power and to explore his achievements whilst emperor. (4Hi27.4)
Read through the lesson notes to discover how Napoleon became emperor of France.  Explore his military campaigns, especially those against the British and judge whether he was successful.  Answer the questions about Napoleon and his battles in your exercise book.

Today, you will be calculating area by counting squares and triangles which I know you are all experts at by now. However, this lesson comes with a slight twist. Can you find the area of a shape using triangles and squares without a grid to help you?

LI: To explore a range of Landscapes within Africa.

This week you will be learning all about some of Africa’s famous landscapes. Explore the ranges of mountains, deserts, coastal areas and rivers to discover:

  • Where it is on the map
  • Who lives there
  • What animals you can find
  • Different plants found
  • The varying climates

It’s the end of the chapter Area! Within this topic you have learnt so much and now it’s time for you to see just how much you know. Work through the different questions before completing the worksheet in your maths no problem books. Remember, to look back at the other lessons to help jog your memory before answering any questions if you need to. Don’t forget to answer the challenge question at the end of the slides.

Science

LI: To understand electrical circuits and basic symbols. To understand what electrical insulators and conductors are. (4Sc29.4a)
This week in science, you will be learning about components in an electrical circuit. This will include recognising and drawing them, as well as knowing when a circuit is complete and set up to work, allowing the flow of electrons, or when the circuit is incomplete. You will also be finding out about electrical insulators and conductors!

You are about to start a new topic of Geometry. Within this chapter you will learn a lot of new mathematic skills to do with shape that will test your accuracy, patience and ruler work. However, today we will start with identifying angles. You will be introduced to new vocabulary too, let’s see if you will be able to remember these words along with their definition!

This week, pupils will be exploring timbre of the orchestra by watching Walt Disney's animation of Sergei Prokofiev's famous programme piece, Peter and the Wolf. Read the story here.
